Abstract: This talk will cite current clinical examples of orthopaedic problems that have received engineering solutions. New orthopaedic developments will be demonstrated – and, in particular, future evolution in the relationship between orthopaedics and biomedical engineering will be discussed. Issues ranging from software engineering to tissue engineering through to biomaterials will be covered.
Resume: Professor Jegan Krishnan, was appointed as the inaugural Chair in Orthopaedic Surgery at Flinders University Faculty of Health Sciences in May 2001, following being Head of the Department of Orthopaedics since 1995. Following his post graduation as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in 1992, he spent 2 years overseas visiting research centres throughout UK, Europe, and USA gaining valuable research experience.
His research interest lies in the development of a metacarpophalangeal joint for the rheumatoid hand and a prototype has been developed and clinical trials should proceed within the next six months.
