EEESAU AGM 2008
We are almost at the end of the 2009 academic year, and it is time for our AGM! This is the chance to have your say in the running of the club! The 2009 Committee will be decided and all members are eligible to vote if necessary.

Food and drinks will be provided.
We are also seeking enthusiastic undergraduate committee members. Positions are available for both committee members and undergrad reps. The benefits of becoming a member of the committee include:

IEEE Annual Distinguished Lecture and Dinner
Registration for the IEEE Annual Distinguished Lecture and Dinner is closing soon on 22 October. It includes a presentation from the National President, Engineers Australia and dinner and drinks at the National Wine Centre, all for the bargain price of $30 for IEEE student members. Note that this price is only available to IEEE student members, not EEESAU members. Please see this form if you are interested in attending.
Semester 2 Pizza Day
The Semester Two Pizza Day is coming!
Come to EM318 from 12-2PM on Friday 22 August!
Vegetarian pizzas and drinks are also provided. Encourage your non-EEESAU friends to come too.
EEESAU/IEEE members eat free, EEE staff/EEE PG $2, and others $5.
IEEE Student Paper Contest 2008/09
Deadlines:
19th October 2008 (Undergraduate)
18th January 2009 (Postgraduate)
Papers submitted to this Contest should not have been presented elsewhere. Papers previously published elsewhere will be automatically disqualified.
Postgraduate Section
Open to those IEEE Student Members with basic degrees in electrical engineering, electronics, computer science or any other field of interest of an IEEE Society, who are studying for a postgraduate course. Eligibility to enter the contest must be supported by a letter from the Student Branch Counsellor and submitting the paper through the Student Activities Chair of the Section or the Section Chair.
1st Prize: AUD500.00 (+ certificate)
2nd Prize:AUD200.00 (+ certificate)
Undergraduate Section
Open to IEEE Student Members undergoing an undergraduate course in electrical engineering, electronics, computer science or allied subjects. Eligibility to enter the contest must be supported by a letter from the Student Branch Counsellor and submitting the paper through the Student Activities Chair of the Section or the Section Chair.
1st Prize: AUD300.00 (+ certificate)
2nd Prize: AUD100.00 (+ certificate)

Semester 2 2008 Notes Sale
EEESAU has now finished its notes sales for this semester. We regret to inform any people who missed out on ordering that it is now not possible to place any further orders. Uncollected notes may be picked up at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Office, Engineering North N107. Please bring your receipt or ID, and the $5 late charge.
EEESAU will be selling notes for Electrical & Electronic Engineering courses for Semester 2, 2008.
Prices and course availability are listed on the poster. You can save time by printing and filling out an order form before the session.
We recommend that you get your notes early so that you are fully prepared for the semester.

Constitution Special General Meeting
EEESAU will be having a Special General Meeting to vote to adopt an updated version of the Constitution. All members welcome.

Semester 1 Pizza Day
The Semester One Pizza Day is coming!
Come to the regular haunt (outside the EM building - where the lawns used to be before the construction) from 12-2PM on Friday 16 May!

Clubs Association UniBar Club Cup
This year the Clubs Association is hosting an event called the UniBar Club Cup. The Cup is a series of events over the year where clubs (non-sporting) will compete in various events to win points for their Club. The club with the most points at the end wins!
EEESAU has decided to enter a team and we are calling for nominations. You can enter in an individual event, or put yout name down for a permanent spot on the team to compete in all events. People will be added to the team on a First-Come-First-Served basis. Any and all prizes and benefits will be shared by competitors only.

with the heading "club cup" and tell him which events you would like to participate in.
Please note that the events will be held on different days and different times, so please only nominate for a permanent place if you are likely to attend all or most of the events. For details on the events, please see the calendar on the main EEESAU page or the poster.
School of EEE Research Expo 2008
EEESAU is proud to be organising the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Research Expo 2008 to be held on 2 May.

Semester 1 2008 Notes Sale: Uncollected and Excess Notes
Semester 1 Course Notes may now be collected from the School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering Office, N107.
We also have spare copies of the following notes for purchase:

- ELECENG 4037 Digital Microelectronics/ELECENG 7051 Microelectronic Datapaths and Arithmetic

Prices are as before, with no late penalty.
Semester 1 2008 Seminar Presentation Skills Workshop
EEESAU and the University's Centre for Learning and Professional Development (CLPD) are proud to offer a special presentation workshop, free for all EEESAU members. This workshop is designed to help improve the technical presentation skills of engineering undergraduate students, with a particular focus on the Final Year Project proposal seminars.
Topics include:
- planning your presentation
- effectively presenting technical information
- appropriate presentation style and language
- using Powerpoint to your best advantage
- group session to provide feedback
The workshop will be presented by experienced CLPD professionals, with input from the School of EEE's academic staff. This workshop will best prepare you for your project seminars and beyond!
When: Presentation Skills Workshop: 11am - 1pm, Monday 17 March (Week 3). Practice and Feedback Session: 10am - 1pm, Friday 28 March (Week 4).
Where: EM316 seminar room
Price: FREE for members. Non-members join EEESAU for $5 on the day.
Registration: Registration is on the day at the venue.
Semester 1 2008 LaTeX Short Course
EEESAU will be holding an introductory short course on how to use the LaTeX language. LaTeX is a powerful and versatile typesetting tool that is used widely in research and especially for documents that have mathematical content. This short course will focus on the elements used in producing reports commonly required for projects.
This course is recommended for third year, fourth year, and postgraduate students.
Please note: As there is a limited number of places in the course, attendance is by registration only.
When: 2pm - 4pm, Monday 17 March (Week 3)
Where: EM211 computing suite
Pre-requisites: None. This is a beginner level course.
Price: FREE for members. Non-members join EEESAU for $5 on the day. Supplementary LaTeX booklet may be purchased for $3.
Registration: A sign-up sheet will be available in Week 2 of Semester 1 at the School Office.
Semester 1 2008 Notes Sale
Update 12/March/2008: One final notes collection session will run on Friday 14 March from 12:30 - 1:45 in EM318. A late fee of $5 applies to all orders collected during this session. Notes that remain uncollected at the end of the session will be destroyed, unless alternative arrangements are made prior to the session.

Please note that the pick-up session to be held from 2:30PM to 3:45PM on 12 March will be held in EM318.
Update 5/March/2008: We have received several requests for ordering and collection of notes outside of the advertised session times. Unfortunately, EEESAU is unable to accept these requests. We recommend that if you are unable to make it to the ordering sessions, you instead fill out an order form and ask a friend to take it, with payment, to the ordering session on your behalf. Likewise, if you are unable to make it to the pickup sessions, you can ask a friend to take your receipt to the pickup session on your behalf.
If you wish to apply for membership, please also fill out a membership form.
Update 26/February/2008: Due to misunderstandings in prices, some people who applied for membership at the 26 February 2008 ordering session may not have received the full discount on certain items. The most problematic item is the Book of Formulae, LaTeX Guide, Matlab Course Notes combination as the correct price for members is $8.00. We will make a list of student numbers that may have been affected available at the subsequent notes ordering sessions and reimburse the difference to the students who have been affected.
EEESAU apologises for any inconvenience, and any confusion, that may have resulted.
