Xiaolong You – Terahertz Focusing Reflectarray with Enhanced Bandwidth

Focused beam is desirable for providing enhanced gain for terahertz communications and improved resolution for imaging systems. In traditional lenses, beam focusing is realized using bulk materials with limitations in material availability, size and efficiency. As an alternative, we employ a thin reflectarray based on stub-loaded square patches to attain the same functionality. We numerically and experimentally demonstrate that the proposed reflectarray is capable of focusing an incident collimated beam into a point at a finite distance. This focusing functionality is maintained over an experimentally verified 3-dB relative bandwidth of 23.8% namely ranging from 0.90 THz to 1.14 THz.
Xiaolong You received his B.Eng in Communication Engineering and MA.Eng in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 2014 and 2016, respectively. He embarked on his PhD journey with the Adelaide Applied Electromagnetics Group in the School of EEE in 2017. His current research involves designing metasurfaces for beam and polarization manipulation at terahertz frequencies.
