Postgraduate Scholarships

[1] Australian Postgraduate Award(APA)

Applications are now open for the Australian Postgraduate Awards to undertake study towards a Higher Degree by Research in 2010. Awards are available in all Discipline areas and are valued at approximately $19,000 per annum tax free for up to 3 years.

[2] Divisional Scholarships

Applications are now open for the Divisional Scholarships to understake study towards a Higher Degree by Research in 2010. Awards are available in all Discipline areas and are valued at approximately $19,000 per annum tax free for up to 3 years.


[3] The Adelaide Postgraduate Coursework Scholarships International (APCS)

Tenable in any discipline for applicants to undertake a Masters degree by coursework. They offer a living allowance but do not include payment of fees or a HECS liable place in the course. This scheme is subject to funding and the University reserves the right not to make offers in any given year. Value: $18,484 tax free per annum


[4] Rhodes Scholarship

Applications are currently being accepted for Rhodes Scholarships to study at the University of Oxford in 2009. The Rhodes Trust offers eleven scholarships in Australia each year, one awarded in each state and five for Australia at large.


[5] George Murray Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarships is to enable graduates of the University of Adelaide to undertake further postgraduate study or postdoctoral research in approved universities or other institutions outside of Australia.

[6] Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS)

The IPRS programme provides 330 new scholarships each year and enables international students to undertake a postgraduate research qualification in Australia and gain experience with leading Australian researchers. Scholarships are open to international students of all countries (except New Zealand) and are available for a period of two years for a Masters by research degree or three years for a Doctorate by research degree. The Scholarship covers tuition fees and health cover costs for Scholarship holders, and health cover costs for their dependents.

  • Applications usually ends on the 15 September 2006.


Ian Wark Research Institute Scholarships

The Ian Wark Research Institute, University of South Australia, invites applications for postgraduate research scholarships from persons who will complete an honours degree in 2005 with high calibre results, or who have previously completed an honours degree and have some work experience. The stipend is AU$24,500 minimum per annum, plus allowances for travel and relocation.

  • Closing date for international applicants 31 August 2005.

Travel Scholarships

[10] The Roger Pysden Memorial Fellowship

The Roger Pysden Memorial Fellowship was conceived by Australian Business Ltd as a fitting memorial to one of its most respected =stalwarts & past Presidents. The goal of the Fellowship is to assist in the development of a learning culture in Aust'n manufacturing. Each year the Fellowship offers three $6000 travel grants for individuals studying or working in manufacturing & related disciplines (such as engineering, physics, IT, biotech, nanotechnology etc) to travel overseas & undertake an investigative project of benefit to Aust'n industry.


[11] CSIRO Postgraduate Scholarship Program 2010

The CSIRO Postgraduate Scholarship Program provides enhanced opportunities in science and engineering for outstanding graduates enrolling each year at Australian tertiary institutions as full-time post graduate students for research leading to the award of a PhD.


[12] Student Travel Bursaries

Awards are made on the strict understanding that the funds will be used solely for the purpose of travel and accommodation directly connected to the work / study placement detailed on the application form. The proposed placement must be to another country outside the applicant's home country; typical host organisations include industrial companies, research, government or higher education establishments.


[13] The Heddle Awards and Mutual Community , Travel Awards

The Heddle Awards and Mutual Community Travel Awards are open to University of Adelaide Doctoral candidates to undertake travel related to their research.


[14] Research and Travel Grants

10 awards are presented each year, allowing members to conduct their research or to present their research at professional conferences or symposia.

[15] Summer Industry Vocational Scheme

The SIVS program provides structured workplace experience for a student over a six week period during the summer vacation.Students work for approximately 200 hours on an industry research project.$1,500 will be made to the student in two instalments, $750 midway through the project and $750 on completion.


[16] The GILES Program(Graduate Industry Linked Entrepreneurial Scheme)

The GILES program places a graduate under a company sponsored scholarship, to carry out a project activity while studying for an appropriate Masters Degree.The agreement covers a period of 12 months and links industry with the University through the activities of the student. Intakes are made in the 1st semester (Jan/Feb) and the 2nd semester (June/July). A scholarship is paid to the student fortnightly.The program is heavily biased towards the project, with the graduate spending at least 80% of their time on project activities. The project itself becomes an assessable major part of the Masters Degree course.


[17] General Sir John Monash Postgraduate Student Awards

Annually, up to eight Awards may be awarded to outstanding Australian citizens graduating from Australian Universities to enable them to undertake postgraduate study abroad at the world’s best Universities, appropriate to their field of study.


[18] Fulbright Awards

Each year, up to 20 awards are made to Australian Postgraduates, Postdoctoral Fellows, Professionals and Senior Scholars. Fields of study range from the traditional fields of law, engineering and science to the visual and performing arts.


Young Investigator Award

The Young Investigator Award, now in its sixth year, is a highly successful event rewarding excellence in South Australia’s young researchers in both science and their ability to communicate and ‘sell’ that science. As last year, the Award is being jointly held by the Children,Youth and Women's Health Service and the University of Adelaide.


[19] International Science Linkages (ISL) Program

The International Science Linkages (ISL) Program - International Science & Technology aims to promote innovation and competitiveness by increasing Australian access to global research & technologies and facilitate their uptake by Australian researchers and firms. The ISL offers assistance through a Competitive Grants element for international research and development cooperation and related activities.


Fulbright Postgraduate Award in Technology & Communication

This award is sponsored by Telstra - to undertake a research or study program in the U.S. in 2007/2008. This award is for Australian citizens to undertake postgraduate research or study in Technology & Communications in the United States towards an Australian higher degree, or enrolment in a higher degree in the U.S. Applications are invited from graduates who have an interest and commitment to a career in Technology & Communication.


Fulbright Postgraduate Science & Engineering Award

This award is one of 3 privately sponsored Fulbright Awards and is intended for applicants who wish to engage in research relevant to an Australian higher degree or undertake an approved course of study for a US higher degree or its equivalent.


[20] Freshinnovators

We are seeking the assistance of scientific, technological and engineerng organisations in Australia in identifying the under-publicised innovation of the past year or so. Innovators need to communicate clearly about their inventive, and often pioneering, work to potential investors, industry users and other key stakeholders such as the wider business community and media.


2006 Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Awards

The Australian Government and the Cheung Kong Group invite you to apply for an Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Award. The awards enable high achieving scholars from Australia to undertake postgraduate and postdoctoral research in Asia and for scholars from Asia to do the same in Australia. Research projects should benefit the further development of the social and economic environments of the regions.


Australian Cheung Kong Student Exchange Programme

The Australian Cheung Kong Student Exchange Programme provides A$500,000 per annum to fund student mobility subsidies for 50 in-coming undergraduate exchange students from certain eligible Asian countries and administrative regions and a matching 50 out-going undergraduate Australian students to study in these same eligible Asian countries and administrative regions.


Endeavour Asia Awards

The Endeavour Asia Awards provide financial support for postgraduate students from designated Asian countries to undertake, in any field of study:

   * an Australian higher degree; or
   * research in Australia towards a higher degree in their home country.

Application closing date : 31 October 2006.


Endeavour Malaysia Awards

The Endeavour Malaysia Awards provide financial support for postgraduate students

   * from Malaysia to undertake, in any field of study:
         o an Australian higher degree; or
         o research in Australia towards a higher degree in Malaysia.
   * from Australia to undertake, in any field of study:
         o a Malaysian higher degree; or
         o research in Malaysia towards a higher degree in Australia.

[21] The J. Mazumdar Prize in Engineering and Mathematics

Best performance by a student completing a BE (EEE,CSE or TE) /BSc (Applied Maths) double degree: $650


[22] The IREE Prize in Microelectronics

Best performance in the level 4 group B (Microelectrnics) subjects: $100


[23] The Award of the Institution of Engineers, Australia

Nomination of two students for selection on the basis of academic exellence and leadership at level 4: $200


[24] The Sir Robert Chapman Prize

An annual prize shall be awarded to the student in the Bachelor of Engineering who has most distinguished himself or herself during that year in the Level I Engineering courses in the program.


[25] The E.V. Clark Prize for Electrical and Electronic Engineering

The prize shall be awarded annually to the student who obtains the best result in the assessment of the Level II course ELEC ENG 2008 Electronics II.


[26] The DSTO Surveillance Systems Undergraduate Prize

The prize shall be awarded annually to the student in Level IV of the program for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, or Information Technology and Telecommunications, who most distinguishes himself or herself in the course ELEC ENG 4011A/B Project Work, in an area of technology relevant to military surveillance systems such as radar, electro-optics, propagation and modelling, electromagnetic theory, antennas, optical physics, scattering, microwave, millimetre wave and optical components, radar imaging, signal and image processing or surveillance system studies.


[27] The Clipsal Integrated Systems Prize

The prize shall be awarded to the student who obtains the best overall result in the assessment of the Level III course ELEC ENG* 3018 RF Engineering III.


[28] The Sir William Goodman Scholarship

The scholarship shall be awarded to the candidate for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering or Information Technology and Telecommunications who, obtains in one year, the best overall result in the assessment of the Level III courses prescribed in the Specific Academic Program Rules defining the program of study for these degrees.


[29] The Saab Systems Scholarship

The scholarship shall be awarded to the candidate for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or Software Engineering; or the degree of Bachelor of Computer Science or the degree of Bachelor of Mathematical & Computer Sciences who obtains in one year the best overall result in the assessment of courses in their first year of study at the University of Adelaide.


IEE Electrical Engineering Prize

IEE Prizes are awarded annually by the Institution of Electrical Engineers Australia to outstanding students who are pursuing or have just completed a course of study which has been accredited by the Institution or by a National Institution with which the IEE has a mutual recognition agreement.


[30] Victoria Prize

This prize of $50,000 celebrates leadership, determination, adventure & creativity and highlights the many ways in which high level research & development work of international standards is conducted locally. The Prize recognises an individual or group whose scientific discovery or technology innovation has significantly advanced the State's knowledge base or has potential to lead to a commercial outcome. In addition, the winner is invited to provide advice to Government on future directions in their field, as well as to promote science, technology & innovation as exciting careers of the future.

[31] British Council Eureka Prize for Inspiring Science

This prize is awarded to a young Australian between the age of 18 and 35 for outstanding research, inventiveness, innovation or creativity that has demonstrably raised the profile of science, engineering or technology.
