Hints and Tips

Power shut down problem

Having problems with heating up T-lights after power shut downs. It could be traced back to damaged heat foils. Even if the laser is switched off it seems that high intensity pulse on the power net can destroy the heat foils which heat up the TC1550. The resistance has been only marginal higher 80 Ohms instead of 3.5 Ohm. So the heat foils are required to be replaced.

LIA Hardware setting problem

There is a control in the TeraScan Software which is called “Lock-in time constant”, but this control will NOT affect the real Lock-in time constant! So what you need to do to get valid measurement results in slow scan is to choose a “Lock-in time constant” in the software that corresponds to the selected Lock-in time constant on the LIA Hardware (via LCD Touch Screen). Note: The Software is not communicating or controlling the Hardware LIA at the moment.

Rapid Scan problem

If you are sure that you have selected a short time constant of 300µs in the Hardware LIA control menu of the Mini DDS (via Touchscreen) and you still acquire this strange waveform, there are two more things that could cause the problem: 1. The LIA is having a malfunction 2. The “Disable Manual Lock-in Control” box is unchecked

Keys to align the lens and antennas

The working distance of the TPX lenses is 45mm, so I would suggest to position the two focusing lenses roughly at a distance of 90 mm. The two collimating lenses usually work best at a distance of 30-35mm away from the antennas. This shorter distance is due to the silicon lenses and the dimensions of the antenna modules.

Start and Stop position

During the alignment of the antennas and mirrors, it's better to keep the THz pulse in the middle of range eg, start: 730000 and stop:930000. The Thz pulse could become unstable if Thz pulse too close to the edge eg, 1450000
