Area Interconnection between Stacked MCMs

   

Thus far, we have only dealt with MCM stacking techniques that involve peripheral interconnections. We now review techniques that allow `area' interconnections (ie. connections positioned anywhere on the MCM's surface area). Such methods provide higher interconnection density between stacked elements. The following are variants of such vertical interconnections:
